Abstract

Pleural tuberculosis is a disease with a low incidence in pediatric age, unlike pulmonary tuberculosis, which according to statistics from the Center for Disease Control, accounts for 79% of all reported cases (1); however, it is the main diagnostic suspicion in the presence of an isolated non-toxemic pleural effusion. We report the case of an adolescent, previously healthy, with no exposure to pulmonary tuberculosis, where after a torpid evolution of his pathology and after the joint study of complementary examinations, clinical and epidemiology, timely antiphymic treatment was established, with the result of a pleural biopsy, finally compatible with tuberculosis. The aim of this report is to highlight the importance of the clinical evaluation of the patient, especially in a country where tuberculosis is considered an endemic disease.
